UNDP Lake Tanganyika Biodiversity Project, Kigoma, Tanzania. While in Tanzania, Ms. Robinson was also invited to assist staff from the University of Dar es Salaam and the local water authorities in water sampling for the United Nations Development Programme’s Lake Tanganyika Biodiversity Project. She helped sample water wells in the catchment basin near Kigoma, as well as the Luiche and Malagarasi rivers, to support an ongoing effort to characterize the groundwater sources and flow in the basin by evaluating trace mineral content and the presence of radioactive tracers.
Proposed Project, Power Plant Remediation, Kigoma, Tanzania. To address contamination from the diesel power plant in Kigoma, which was located very near the shore of Lake Tanganyika, she developed an abbreviated PA and concept study report to eliminate the contaminant source and conduct site investigation/remedial actions, which was submitted for consideration to the UNICEF office in Dar es Salaam. Due to UNICEF’s specific objections to American citizen involvement, however, the project was subsequently assigned to Dutch nationals.
